The visa bulletin is a monthly report from the U.S. Department of State that shows which green card applicants can move forward, based on their priority date. Because Congress limits how many green cards are issued each year per category and per country, applicants in high-demand categories wait in line. The bulletin is how you find out whether your place in that line has been reached this month.
Final Action Dates tell you when a green card can actually be approved. Dates for Filing tell you when you can submit your application paperwork, which is often earlier so your file is ready the moment a visa is available. Each month, USCIS announces which of the two charts adjustment-of-status applicants inside the U.S. should use - so always check that before you file.
Find your category in the left column and read across to your country of chargeability (usually your country of birth). Compare the date listed to your priority date - the date your petition was filed. If your priority date is earlier than the date shown, your place in line has been reached. "Current" means no wait at all; "Unavailable" means no numbers this month.

Find your green card category (for example F2A for spouses of permanent residents, or EB-2 for advanced-degree workers) in the left column, then read across to your country of chargeability - usually your country of birth. Compare the date shown to your priority date (the date your petition was filed). If your priority date is earlier than the date listed, your place in line has been reached.
Current - shown as "C" - means a visa is available right now with no backlog for that category and country. If your category is Current, you do not have to wait for a priority date; you can move forward as soon as the rest of your case is ready.
Unavailable - shown as "U" - means no visa numbers are being issued in that category and country this month, usually because the annual limit has been reached. It does not mean your case is denied; you wait until numbers become available again, often at the start of the new fiscal year in October.
The Department of State publishes a new visa bulletin every month, usually a couple of weeks before the month begins. This tracker is updated each month to show the latest priority dates, and the bulletin month is labeled at the top so you always know which month you are viewing.
